style file week one

5 outfits on bekka palmer

Monique and I decided to take charge of our closets by posting our five outfits from the week each Friday until we get to 30 photographs. We considered doing 30 for 30, but decided we don't like doing laundry that often.

It has been unnaturally nice in San Diego, so lucky me, I was able to bust out spring and summer gear for to wear to this week. Don't ask how I ride my bike in a skirt!

j.crew + poolside bliss

J.Crew does it again! The photography and styling in Hollywood for their early spring line is fabulous. I'll take one of everything please (including the pool + gentleman).

dreaming of summer

Sfgirlbybay's Tangerine Dream is making my mouth water for summer. It reminds me of orangsicles and warm summer evenings.

maxed out

maxi dress at mimi and red

Love this new dress from BB Dakota's spring collection, coming soon to my favorite San Diego boutique Mimi & Red. Also available in green from shopbop.com.

who's going?

Hitched Event

Who's going to Hitched Event this weekend in Palm Springs? I'll be there with my dancing shoes on, and I can't wait to meet all of the other attendees!!

romantic florals

Kari Herer photography

I wouldn't mind having a print or four from the shop of Kari Herer. The dark background floral prints are so romantic and her style is very fresh. These would look gorgeous by my bed.

layered looks

lauren santo domingo shelves

Oh. Em. G. I can't stop peeking at these layered bookshelves in the home of Vogue's Lauren Santo Domingo. The shelves looks well used and I love seeing people with books. I am a book person, and I am suspicious of anyone who is not!

indecision...

...at ban.do. The ban.do gals voted for both the pop flower and french pouf. I'm still on the fence, but will be compelled to make a decision when I see them in person at Hitched this weekend.

take three: spring has sprung

Prepping for spring styles (and wearing them in this sunny San Diego weather)...

1 { emersonmade sunwashed pocket skirt }
2 { j.crew cami }
3 { kate spade wish wedges }

a little more alt

kaleidoscope print

I was able to glean even more wisdom from alt day 2 on the twitterverse. I heard Tina Roth Eisenberg hit it out of the park with the closing keynote.

give a heart

heart cards by lisa jones

What fun heart cards from Lisa Jones Studio! I bet you could get them just in time for Valentine's Day.

andy warhol letterhead & heart cups

I am completely inspired to get work done around my home whenever I see Anna from Door Sixteen post a weekend to do list. This woman can get serious business done in a matter of days. I might be able to hold myself more accountable for my weekly to dos if I announce them here.

inspired to work

heads of state office plus alt recap

I did not attend alt summit this week, but you can bet I was stalking the twitter stream all day yesterday to get some good tips. Between the wisdom coming out of alt and this functional workspace belonging to The Heads of State I am totally inspired to get to work!

one year ago...

this & that on Oh Joy! one year anniversary

One year ago tomorrow my first this & that post went live on Oh Joy! I can't believe it's been a whole year. The top image above was my very first one! And the others are two of my all time favorites.

Getting the guts to send Joy my cover letter was one of the best decisions I have made. In the spirit of making dreams come true I recommend taking a leap today!

stylish food

sang an food photography

I find food to be extremely difficult to photograph well, but apparently Sang An does not share my sentiment as he has a stunning portfolio of food styling + photography. I love how many of his food shots are designed upon a grid. Speaking of grids, if you are in the web design business and haven't yet picked up Khoi Vinh's new book, I suggest you do so!

how many ways can you wear a scarf?

four ways to wear a scarf

Anthropologie's adorable stop motion short Scarf Scenes shows four fun ways to wear a scarf. How many ways do you wear a scarf?

Hint: here's one more on The Sartorialist.

i wish your wish

Gorgeous installation by Rivane Neuenshwander, I would love to have this installed in my house.

Visitors are invited to select ribbons printed with a wish to tie around their wrists. When the ribbon falls off, tradition has it that one's wish will be fulfilled. Visitors may write another wish and place it in the empty hole. This work of art is based on a similar practice that takes place at the church of Nosso Senhor do Bonfim (Our Lord of the Good End) in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil.

Get your wallets ready ladies and gentlemen, because Herriott Grace just announced that a shop update is coming tomorrow. Nikole Herriott updated her flickr stream with a few photos of the new cake pedestals and they are gorgeous as usual.

coffee unplugged

coffee machines without electricty

In one of my favorite posts ever on sfgirlbybay, Victoria rounded up quite a collection of coffee photographs. As a coffee fanatic I love seeing how other people take their coffee and what kind of brewing techniques they use.

a home office

bekka's home office space

i'm totally obsessed with the office / studio spaces of other designers and artists and i'm pretty sure i'm not the only one who likes to get a glimpse. seeing where people create is like peeking into people's minds. so, i thought i'd share a few images of my home office, which is currently in the dining room. it's difficult to get good light for taking photographs of the space, so they turned out a bit grainy, but you can get the gist.

a new facade

metier house rotterdam

dreaming of working / living in the open spaces of this metier house in rotterdam. the house was split into multiple apartments at one time and has been opened back up into a single family home complete with a kitchen, studio space, garden and courtyard. i am especially loving the new windows overlapping old window frames.

style.play.work.shop. edition no. 4

style play work shop 4

This month's Style.Play.Work.Shop included a coffee table, something meant to burn, something alive and remnants of a hobby. In addition to Justina's and my own I choose Alexandra's from bancroft + ivy. It's Alexandra's first time submitting, so a warm welcome to her!
